Nie Er was a Chinese composer born on February 14, 1912, in Kunming, Yunnan. He began his education in 1918 at the primary school of Kunming Normal University. In 1927, he enrolled at Yunnan's First Normal University, where he established a music society with friends and participated in musical and theatrical activities both within and outside the university. Nie Er trained in violin and piano during his studies.
