Nigel David Short is a British chess player, grandmaster, chess trainer, and commentator. He became a grandmaster at the age of 19 and was the first British player to qualify for a World Championship, playing against Garry Kasparov in 1993 in London. Kasparov won the match with a score of 12½ - 7½. As of now, Short is the oldest player in the top 100 of the FIDE rankings.
