He developed a groundbreaking method to observe the movement of light in space using holography with short laser pulses of 10 picometers, allowing one to see the propagation of light through the analysis of holographic images, a technique known as light-in-flight. He was born on October 22, 1931, and passed away on March 12, 2019.
