Nils Thorsten Elias Fries (1912–1994) was a Swedish professor of botany, specializing in physiology and anatomy at Uppsala University. Born in Uppsala, he studied the reproduction of fungi and was elected a member of the Leopoldina in 1965. He was the son of Thoralf Fries and grandson of Thore M. Fries. Nils Fries passed away in Helga Trefaldighets parish, Uppsala, and is buried at Uppsala old cemetery.
