Nimal Mendis (1934–2015) was a prominent Sri Lankan singer and songwriter recognized for his significant contributions to music. He became renowned after appearing on the BBC's Top of the Pops in 1968. Discovered by Radio Ceylon in the late 1950s, his songs, including 'Kandyan Express', became popular across South Asia. Mendis lived in London and spent time in France with his wife Ranjani. After the 2004 tsunami, he composed a song to support the victims, garnering praise from the British Parliament.
