Nirode Ranjan Chowdhury, popularly known as Putu Chowdhury, was an Indian cricketer who played Test and first-class cricket from 1941 to 1959. Born on May 23, 1923, in Jamshedpur, he represented both Bihar and Bengal in the Ranji Trophy during the early 1940s. Chowdhury played two official Test matches, taking one wicket, and featured in 58 first-class matches, claiming 200 wickets with an impressive bowling average of 25.14. He was an accomplished player for Mohun Bagan Club and passed away on December 14, 1979, while working as a coach.
