He served as the editor-in-chief of the magazine 'Shin Kenchiku' from 1953 to 1957, initiating discussions on tradition in architecture. Involved in the formation of the Metabolism group in 1960, he actively contributed to various fields including folk studies. Although he did not participate in actual architectural projects, he significantly influenced Japanese architectural thought and the perspectives of Japanese architects through his criticism. He was an honorary member of several academic societies.
