Norbert Schmid was a Hamburg police officer born on April 12, 1939, who was killed on October 22, 1971. He was the first murder victim of the Red Army Faction (RAF) during an attempt to arrest terrorists. Schmid and his colleague attempted to stop a suspect, leading to a chase that involved RAF members. He was fatally shot when firearms were used. Following his death, evidence later identified Gerhard Müller as the shooter. A square in Hamburg is named after him, and he is buried at the Volksdorf Cemetery.
