Norman Macfarlane Irons CBE (1941-2023) was a Scottish politician who served as the Lord Provost of Edinburgh from 1992 to 1996. He was the first Lord Provost from the Scottish National Party (SNP) and was instrumental in maintaining the minority administration of the Labour Party on the city council. Irons criticized the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for the neglect of his mother in 2005. He also served as the honorary consul for Hungary in Edinburgh and was appointed CBE in 1995 for his contributions to local government. He passed away on 26 November 2023.
