Norman Forber Kay was a British composer and writer born on January 5, 1929, in Bolton. He studied at Bolton School, Royal Manchester College of Music, and Royal College of Music. Kay composed incidental music for the first season of Doctor Who, including An Unearthly Child. He also scored music for Out of the Unknown and Late Night Horror, and wrote for the film Diamonds for Breakfast. Besides composing, he was a music critic for The Daily Telegraph and authored a well-received study on Dmitri Shostakovich. Kay died in 2001 from motor neuron disease.
