Norman L. Letvin was an American immunologist and AIDS researcher. He is known for establishing the first non-human primate model for HIV research in 1985. Letvin succeeded in isolating the Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) and demonstrating that it caused AIDS-like immune system damage and fatalities in Indian rhesus macaques. His groundbreaking work has contributed significantly to the understanding of HIV and AIDS.
