Charles Norris Houghton (1909-2001) was a prominent American stage manager, scenic designer, producer, director, academic, author, and advocate for public policy in the arts. He made significant contributions to 20th-century Russian Theatre and played a key role in the off-Broadway movement. A dedicated educator, Houghton taught at prestigious institutions such as Princeton, Columbia, and Vassar, and was the founding Dean of Theatre and Film at SUNY Purchase. His scholarly work, including numerous publications, is preserved in various university libraries.
