Captain North Edward Frederick Dalrymple-Hamilton was a distinguished Royal Navy officer during World War II. He served as gun director on the battleship HMS King George V, where he was present at the sinking of the Bismarck. His father was the commander of HMS Rodney, which was stationed nearby. Later, he served as the executive officer of the Royal Yacht HMY Britannia from 1958 to 1960 and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Ayrshire in 1973.
