Ntare VI of Ankole, originally named John Patrick Barigye, was born on January 10, 1940. He was the Omugabe of Nkore and the 27th king of the Bahinda dynasty, though he never ruled Ankole. An economics graduate from Cambridge University, he served as an ambassador in West Germany and the Vatican. In a notable instance, he was appointed by Idi Amin after publicly opposing the restoration of the monarchy. Ntare VI passed away on October 14, 2011, and was succeeded by his son, Charles Rwebishengye.
