Oleg Aleksandrovich Melnikov was a Soviet astronomer born on March 20, 1912, in Khvalynsk. He graduated from Kharkiv University in 1933 and dedicated his life to the Pulkovo Observatory, where he worked until his passing on May 12, 1982. He became a correspondence member of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1960 and also served as a professor at Leningrad University from 1946. Melnikov passed away in Saint Petersburg, where he is buried at the Pulkovo Cemetery.
