He has served as a clergyman since 2004 at the Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist in Sokolniki. Stenyayev is also a theologian, publicist, preacher, and missionary, with a focus on cult studies and comparative theology. He leads the Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Non-Traditional Religions named after Alexei Khomyakov.
