Oleksandr Kovalov is a Soviet and Ukrainian theoretical physicist born on May 18, 1945, in Ulan-Ude, Buryatia. He is a leading researcher at the B.I. Verkin Institute for Low Temperature Physics and Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and a professor at the Department of Theoretical Physics of Kharkiv University. Kovalov holds a Doctorate in Physics and Mathematics and is a laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology. He is known for his fundamental research in the theory of nonlinear phenomena in magnetically ordered and elastic media.
