Oleta Kirk Abrams, also known as Lee, was a prominent activist and co-founder of the Bay Area Women Against Rape, which was the first rape crisis center in the U.S. Born on June 12, 1927, she became a victim-witness advocate for the Alameda County district attorney's office after her daughter was raped at school. Outraged by the inadequate treatment her daughter received from both the school and hospital, Abrams rallied two friends to establish the center, demonstrating her commitment to victim support and advocacy until her passing on January 8, 2005.
