He is known for inventing the ABS system for automobiles, which prevents wheel lock during braking; however, he lost the rights to this invention, and the financial benefits went to Bosch and later to Mercedes Benz. Tegström also designed an entirely self-sufficient, eco-friendly home powered by wind and water energy through electrolysis, and he developed an environmentally friendly car that operated on water, using electrolysis to separate hydrogen from oxygen for combustion.
