Omar S. Knedlik was an American inventor and businessman born on December 21, 1916, and best known for creating the ICEE frozen drink. A World War II veteran, he owned a Dairy Queen in the late 1950s, where he initially served semi-frozen soft drinks due to lacking a soda fountain. This led to the development of the ICEE machine, which took five years to perfect and gained popularity. In 1966, 7-Eleven adopted the concept and marketed it as the Slurpee. Knedlik passed away on March 14, 1989.
