He served in the Mexican Army from 1991 until his desertion in 1999, subsequently joining the Gulf Cartel. Lorméndez Pitalúa played a pivotal role in Los Zetas' operations, overseeing drug smugglers and engaging in violent confrontations with rival cartels. After being imprisoned from 2005 to 2013, he returned to organized crime, aligning himself with the Zetas Vieja Escuela faction.
