Omund Birkeland (1918–2009) was a Norwegian Lutheran missionary associated with the Norwegian Lutheran Mission Society (NLM). He served in Ethiopia, where he contributed to the establishment of the Mekane Yesus Church, which became one of the largest congregations globally. Initially intending to missionary in China, he was redirected to Ethiopia after World War II. Birkeland worked in Ethiopia from 1948 to 1980 and was also a teacher at NLM's Bible School and Tabor seminary. After returning to Norway, he served as NLM's district secretary in Buskerud until 1985.
