Oqil Salimov was an Uzbek politician and academic, born on December 24, 1928. He graduated from the Central Asian Polytechnic Institute and became a Doctor of Technical Sciences. Salimov was a lecturer at the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute starting in 1954. He joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in 1957 and held several significant positions, including Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Uzbek SSR from 1983 to 1986. He also served as Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
