Orestes Manousos was a prominent Greek gastroenterologist and Professor of Medicine at the University of Crete. He served as Director of the First Gastroenterology Clinic at Evaggelismos Hospital from 1977 to 1985 and was President of the Hellenic Gastroenterology Society from 1981 to 1982. He was a founding member and the first president of the Mediterranean Medical Society (1989) and the Hellenic Society for the Study of Helicobacter pylori (1996). After retiring in 1998, he authored several books on Cretan history and folklore.
