Oscar Schmidt, born on February 16, 1958, in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, is a retired Brazilian basketball player. He began his professional career in 1974 and was drafted by the Brooklyn Nets. Standing at 6 feet 8.75 inches (2.1 m), he represented his country in international competitions, participating in the 1980 Summer Olympics and winning gold at the 1987 Pan American Games. Schmidt retired from professional basketball in 2003 and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
