Óskar Sigurpálsson is a former Icelandic weightlifter and powerlifter, born on December 21, 1945. He is often referred to as the father of weightlifting in Iceland. Óskar participated in two Olympic Games, competing in weightlifting at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics in the middleweight category and the 1972 Munich Olympics in the heavyweight category. Throughout his career, he had notable lifts but did not rank in some events. In addition to sports, he worked as a police officer and is married with seven children and ten grandchildren.
