Kiiras founded a religious association called Totuuden Ystävät in 1957 and published a magazine called Totuuden Sanomat. He was politically active, founding parties advocating for retirees. In the 1980s, he composed a piece inspired by Saint Francis and received a letter of thanks from Pope John Paul II.
