Osmán Morote Barrionuevo, also known as Comrade Nicolas, was a prominent member of the Shining Path, a Maoist insurgency in Peru. He served as the second-in-command and is the son of Efraín Morote Best. Along with his siblings, Arturo and Katia, he was involved in the group's terrorist activities. Arrested on June 11, 1988, on terrorism charges, he received a 20-year sentence that was later reduced to 15 years but ultimately escalated to life imprisonment following a new trial in 1992. A subsequent trial commenced in June 2003.
