He emerged from student revolts and became involved with Otto Muehl and the Action-Analytic Organization in the early 1970s. By the late 1980s, Bauer distanced himself from Muehl and worked as a freelance artist, dividing his time between Burgenland, Austria, and Santa Maria in the Azores. In 2004, he published '1968 – autobiographical notes,' reflecting on his experiences from student life through the 1990s.
