He was an accomplished ski jumper in his youth, winning the Kongsberg Youth Cup in 1960. Giacomelli served as a coach for several national teams, including Italy, Sweden, and France. He has also been an international judge for ski jumping and nordic combined events. In addition to coaching, he has contributed to sports journalism, literature on ski jumping, and has held various administrative roles in sports organizations.
