He focused on spiritual, religious, and folkloric themes, publishing his translations in the 'Hlasy' series. He served as a librarian and taught languages at the Olomouc university, ultimately becoming an independent writer, renowned for his translations of Dante's 'Divine Comedy' and Mácha's 'Máj'.
