Fleeing from the Nazis in 1938, he found work with Chester Carlson, assisting with the xerography project. Despite his initial skepticism, he helped develop the technology. Kornei later worked at Brush Manufacturing, becoming influential in producing high-quality magnetic recording heads. Although he maintained a loose connection with Carlson, he expressed concern over his compensation as xerography gained success, leading to receiving additional stock from Carlson. He was later recognized by the Audio Engineering Society.
