Oya Baydar is a prominent Turkish writer and sociologist born in Istanbul in 1940. She was significantly involved in socialist politics and has written for the online newspaper T24. Baydar published her first novel during her high school years, inspired by French author Françoise Sagan. She graduated in sociology from Istanbul University in 1964 and faced political persecution, leading to her imprisonment during the 1971 coup. After twelve years in exile in Germany, she returned to Turkey in 1992, becoming an influential editor and winning numerous awards for her literary works.
