Øyvin Thon is a former Norwegian orienteer born on March 25, 1958, in Drammen. He is regarded as one of the best orienteers of the 1980s, having won two individual gold medals at the World Championships and five additional golds as part of Norway's dominant relay team. His first gold medal came in 1979 in Tampere, where he beat the defending champion by over a minute. Thon continued to excel and secured his second individual title in 1981, demonstrating his skill in orienteering until his last World Championships appearance in 1989.
