He represented Ladakh as a Member of Parliament during two terms from 1980 to 1989 and again from 1996 to 1998. Additionally, he held significant positions within the Pradesh Congress Committee in Jammu and Kashmir, serving as secretary-general and vice president. Namgyal died at the age of 83 due to complications from COVID-19 during the pandemic in India.
