Paul Westmacott Richards was a British botanist born on 9 December 1908 and passed away on 4 October 1995. He studied at Trinity College, Cambridge and participated in several expeditions to tropical regions, including the 1929 expedition to British Guiana and the 1932 Sarawak expedition. In 1949, he became Chair of Botany at the University College of North Wales, where he worked until his retirement in 1976. Richards authored 'The Tropical Rain Forest' in 1952 and was awarded the Linnean Medal in 1979.
