Known for his work in the mestizo tradition of healing as a vegetalista, Amaringo gained international recognition through the efforts of ethnobotanists Dennis McKenna and Luis Eduardo Luna. He played a significant role in the Usko-Ayar school of painting and supervised ayahuasca retreats, creating artwork that included angelic themes and depictions of Peru's flora and fauna.
