Patrick Agnew, born on March 8, 1955, is a former member of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) and a politician who was elected as a Teachta Dála (TD) during the 1981 Irish hunger strike. From Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland, he joined the IRA in 1972, influenced by family history and events like Bloody Sunday. Imprisoned for arms importation and IRA membership, he participated in the H-Blocks blanket protest. He topped the poll in the 1981 general election but remained incarcerated and did not take his seat. Agnew was released in 1986 and became active in Sinn Féin.
