He participated in the 1961 Liberation of Goa, destroying a Portuguese patrol boat and earning the Shaurya Chakra. Ramachandran was the first non-Soviet pilot to fly the MiG-25 and held several significant leadership positions, including Vice Chief of Air Staff, where he oversaw the deployment of India's Prithvi missile. His achievements are recognized by multiple prestigious awards and fellowships.
