Born on March 9, 1933, in Hamzalar, Dobrich Province, he graduated from the Georgi Dimitrov Higher Agricultural Institute in Sofia in 1964. He began work as an agronomist at the Dobrich Agricultural Institute and later became its director. Shterev made significant contributions to the economics of wheat production and authored numerous publications and two textbooks. He held various academic positions, including a senior researcher and full professor at the University of Economics Varna, and served as secretary of the Dobrich Institute.
