Panchanan Maheshwari (9 November 1904 – 18 May 1966) was a distinguished Indian botanist known for pioneering the technique of test-tube fertilization in angiosperms, enabling the creation of new hybrid plants. He advocated for the artificial culture of immature embryos and made notable contributions to school education, leading to the publication of the first Biology textbooks for Higher Secondary Schools by NCERT in 1964. Renowned as the father of Indian plant embryology, Maheshwari also authored 'An Introduction to Embryology of Angiosperms', significantly influencing the field of botany.
