She serves as a Professor in Nursing at the University of Sheffield within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health. Ali has held various roles, including associate editor for Nursing Open, contributor to The Conversation, and radio presenter on LinkFM. She was also a founding member of The Lancet Commission on Nursing and in 2020 became the editor-in-chief of the International Nursing Review journal.
