Patricia Olive 'Pat' Kavanagh (1940-2008) was a South African-born literary agent who worked in the UK. Born in Durban, she was the wife and literary agent of author Julian Barnes. In the 1980s, she left Barnes for a relationship with writer Jeanette Winterson, which inspired Winterson's novel 'The Passion' (1987). Despite this, Kavanagh and Barnes later reconciled in their marriage. Kavanagh passed away at 68 due to a brain tumor.
