Patrick McTaggart-Cowan (1912-1997) was a Canadian meteorologist and the inaugural president of Simon Fraser University. Originally from Edinburgh, he moved to Canada as a child and studied Mathematics and Physics at UBC before becoming a Rhodes Scholar. He had a notable career with the Meteorological Service of Canada, contributing significantly during WWII as chief meteorologist for the RAF Ferry Command. After the war, he became the executive director of the Science Council of Canada and was honored multiple times for his contributions to meteorology, including being made an Officer of the Order of Canada.
