Patrick Vallençant (1946–1989) was a renowned French alpinist and skier known as a pioneer in ski mountaineering. He led the French ski mountaineering school and created the 'Pedal-Jump Turn'. His motto highlighted the risks of the sport: 'si tu tombes, tu meurs' ('you fall, you die'). Vallençant achieved many first descents and co-founded the ski apparel company Degré 7. Tragically, he died during a climbing accident in 1989 when a carabiner broke while abseiling in France.
