Paul Milford Abels (1937–1992) was an American Methodist minister and the first openly gay minister in a major Christian denomination. He served as the pastor of the Washington Square Methodist Episcopal Church in New York City's Greenwich Village from 1973 to 1984. His leadership marked a significant moment in the acceptance of LGBTQ+ individuals within mainstream religious contexts, pioneering a path for inclusivity in the church.
