Self-taught, Annear's artistic journey began in the 1960s; he was influenced by Maori culture and ancient jade carving techniques during his studies. His distinctive style, often veering into sculpture rather than traditional jewellery, gained recognition in exhibitions such as 'Bone Stone Shell.' Besides jewellery, he engaged in painting and even published a colouring book in 2003. In the early 2000s, he retired to Cambodia, continuing his craft until his death in 2016.
