Paul Capolongo is an Algerian conductor born on March 17, 1940, in Algiers. He pursued music studies at a local conservatory before attending the Paris Conservatory. In 1963, he moved to the United States to study conducting under Erich Leinsdorf at the Berkshire Music Center. He won the Koussevitzky Prize and the Eleanor Crane Memorial Prize that same year at the Tanglewood Music Festival. Capolongo served as music director for the Ecuador National Orchestra until 1966 and was Assistant to Leonard Bernstein from 1967 to 1968. He was the principal conductor of the Mulhouse Symphony Orchestra from 1975 to 1985.
