He taught at a vocational school, identifying a lack of engaging reading material for students, which sparked his writing career. Kropp authored over sixty young adult novels and founded High Interest Publishing. Known for his 'hi-lo' books targeting reluctant readers, his works have been translated into multiple languages and received awards both in Canada and internationally.
