He graduated from Lincoln University in 1929 and completed his medical degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1939. He practiced medicine in Chicago, Illinois, specifically at Michael Reese Hospital. Boswell served in the Illinois House of Representatives as a Republican during the years 1965 and 1966. He passed away on March 3, 1982, at the same hospital where he practiced.
